The two basic types of heaters are free standing heaters and ceiling mounted heaters. Free standing heaters typically use gas or propane as fuel sources and can be stood on a patio or table top. Ceiling mounted heaters are gas or hard wired electric and are positioned above an area to be heated such as an outdoor room, covered terrace or porch.
