A downlight or recessed light is a fixture installed into a hollow opening in the ceiling. After its installed, you’ll have light shining from a hole in the ceiling, concentrating the light downward as a narrow spotlight or broad floodlight.
LED recessed lighting, also called “LED can light" or “LED downlight," can be used for a wide range of retail, residential, and commercial applications.
LED, or Light Emitting Diode, is a different way of saying that it’s a semiconductor diode that emits light. LEDs are available for recessed lighting as dedicated housings, replacement bulbs, or LED retrofit modules. This module is easily installed in any recessed housing with a screw-in Edison-type base socket with no need to rewire.
Energy Savings
Energy savings has a huge appeal, as LED lights save users:
• 85% of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs • 50% of the electricity used by CFLs • 30% of the electricity used by fluorescent tube lighting. In other words, a 12-watt LED bulb has a light output comparable to a 60-watt halogen or incandescent bulb while using 85% less energy than the incandescent light and 50% less than a CFL.
Heat — Better Color
Because these lights are so much more efficient than halogen or incandescent lighting, they emit a small amount of heat, reducing how much cooling systems or air conditioning systems need to work.
Additionally, in retail settings, LED downlights do not emit damaging infrared or ultraviolet light enabling artwork and fabrics to be lit without deterioration of the color. High-quality LEDs produce better light which shows the color more brilliantly than fluorescent lights.
Lasts LongerLED can lights are made to last about 50 times longer. This means less maintenance replacing burned-out bulbs that are often hard to reach. Other types of lighting simply do not compare to the lifespan of an LED. Your typical LED light can last approximately eleven years based on usage of 12 hours per day!
There are other advantages as well. This type of lighting does not contain mercury or other hazardous materials. Since CFLs and fluorescent tubes contain mercury, they must be disposed of properly to prevent the element from contaminating landfills and public dumps.
Get Dim
LED recessed lighting uses solid-state technology, allowing for effective dimming in many applications while eliminating flickering. More than one dimmer can be used to create zones throughout the home of adjustable lighting.
