Use of veneers enables more decorative looks unattainable with solid wood. Veneers are used over durable wood products such as medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particle board, made of renewable resources. MDF and particle board are used in quality furniture for areas that need to be stable, such as large surfaces. These durable wood products do not expand and contract with heat and cold and do not absorb moisture as much as solid wood, which results in stronger and longer-lasting furniture.

The reason for my 3-star review is that I had to be very careful when I moved it around as I organized my home office space. The top wants to pull off when I lift it and the paneling just above the drawers pulls away when I lift it. Fortunately, I believe we will be in the same home for a while as I don't think the desk would stay in one peace if it had to be moved. The dest is attractive and has plenty of surface space to work on. I wouldn't be as concerned with having to be extremely careful when moving it in place as I organize the office if I hadn't paid so much for the desk. I expected that with the cost of the desk it would have been built much better.
